Interesting idea. I've been thinking a lot about a similar concept, and I think that instead of taking us back to the early days of the internet, this might be taking us to the future: the semantic web.

What I envisage is that everyone in the world has an RDF file describing themselves, their wants, their needs. Instead of specialized services with proprietary databases such as eBay or Yahoo Answers, this data can be accessed by any client that can read RDF.

So, for example, I could have a file that says:

So, now any program (subject to some sort of privacy settings) can crawl my RDF file and see what I am offering, looking for, etc.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

Oops, seems wordpress doesn't like me using tags.

The file was meant to look like:
[i][am called][alex]
[i][am selling][a book]
[i][know a lot about][computers]

Cool! alex,

If RDF is so prevalent in the future that the matching process of "wants" and "solutions" in this concept can be greatly facilitated, I will no longer have troubles of filtering unrelated queries coming in all around the world.

Also, you mentioned proprietary databases, I think it will be a better world if those giant DBs can be "opened" or shared with other apps.

Regarding tags...I'm going to fix it...
