Idea Day12: Amateur Arts 2.0
Some amateur artists of fine art, including painting/carving/sculpting/literature/architechture/music/vangard, are solitary (even caviar to the general), while others want to reach as many appreciators as possible, especially those love arts and don’t exclude the possibility of earning some money from their arts.
I’m no expert in the field of arts, yet I would like to see amateur artists communicate with mass (or potential Long Tails) audience. Though arts become parts of viral culture seems counter intuition, niche markets of amateur arts always exist, and those niche markets are composed of niche communities of fans and appreciators. Once we implement a platform linking all those niche communities together, what will happen next?
Presume that amateur artists have (sophisticated) digital cameras, and they think it’s ok to present their masterpieces in a virtual world.
1. Each piece of art is content of a huge database. -> vertical search of fine arts
2. Social network for amateur artists.
3. Amateur arts thrive in Long Tail communities
5. A central platform helps promote/commercialize arts. i. e. auction of arts.
6. No more solitude, no more caviar to the general. Artists, if they will, interact with fans, and receive feedbacks, in forms of tags, comments, or rating.
In fact, tagging itself is sort of art. Tags reflect different meanings or feelings viewers perceive subjectively. If authors allow viewers to tag their pieces, then mass audience can participate in the dynamic, continuous process of art presenting.
7. Arts can be traded like stocks among communities. Only the “ownership” of arts is traded.
