Idea Day15: Anti Spamers Together Community
Most webmail service providers have their own mechanism to block spams. This kind of firewall system grows stronger and srtonger through users’ submitting of blacklists. We delete/filter/mark spams everyday, but blacklisting info goes to the system itself, not a community. A man-powered mechanism of collaboration to categorize, describe or even sue those spammers collectively will be interesting if implemented. Database of grass-roots contribution then will be available for developers to create a more efficient and cleaner mailing (or blog-commenting) environment.
- a.) General folks list source of spams, (copy-post incoming spam mail address) -> 1. select existed or add a new category for a certain spam. 2. Briefly describe it, if content of this spam is known. 3. Briefly describe the damage, if you have already been a victim of spam-virus. 4. If the context or theme of this spam is obscure, just submit the mail address of spammers and leave other options to others.
- b.) People with tech savvy further categorize and check/edit those listing. Dig out the original IP sources of spammers if they can. Also tag key words for those listings.
- c.) Hackers/Geeks together find ways to block or provide solutions for general folks suffered from spammers.
- d.) Users can subscribe blacklists they have posted, and follow the progress of development of solution. Once a solution is available, they will be noticed first.
- e.) Database is shared with developers of gmail, hotmail, yahoo! mail, search engines, BSP, etc.
- *.) When a number of sufferers reach a threshold, say 1000 victims, sue this spammer together! (?)
Law issues are complicated, but at least we maintain tons of evidences online.
Monetization: Sell Spam-free insurance. How? To be meditated…
Oh, wait, the subtitle of this idea could be: Spam Wars episode V - The Spam-Sufferers Strike Back.
Take a look at an UK based anti-spam organization, Spamhous. Ironically, this organization just went through troublesome litigation.
